ChatGPT Work, Codex & Agents SDK
ChatGPT Work does longer, multi-step tasks, using its own cloud browser for websites, and keeps going after you close your laptop. It replaced ChatGPT agent, which had already absorbed Operator. Codex is OpenAI's coding agent, and the Agents SDK is for developers building their own agents.
✓ Last verified October 15, 2026 from official sourcesThe cloud browser in ChatGPT Work is on paid plans (not Free or Go). Codex is included in ChatGPT Free, Go, Plus, Pro, Business and Enterprise, with usage that grows by tier.
- Everyday users who already pay for ChatGPT
- Delegating web research and form-filling
- Coding tasks in the cloud
Cloud. Business, Enterprise and Edu plans have separate data controls. Skill level: Beginner.
What it's great at
- Web tasks that end in a file or a summary
- Cloud coding tasks through Codex
- Developers building on the Agents SDK
What it can do
- ChatGPT Work runs longer, multi-step tasks that end in finished deliverables. Its cloud browser signs in to sites through a secure form and asks before payments or bookings.
- Deep research produces cited multi-page reports, and the ChatGPT Atlas browser puts ChatGPT inside your own browser, with agent mode on paid plans
- Codex app for macOS and Windows, with plugins for tools like Slack, GitHub and Figma
- Agents SDK: no separate platform fee, you pay for model tokens and tools. OpenAI is retiring Agent Builder and its Evals product on Nov 30, 2026, and recommends the Agents SDK or Workspace Agents in ChatGPT instead.
Example tasks to try
- "Compare three CRM tools' pricing pages and give me a table."
- "Plan a 2-day team offsite under $3,000 and draft the invite."
- In Codex: "Add input validation to the signup form and open a PR."
Start in 5 minutes
- In ChatGPT (Plus or higher), start a task in Work
- Describe the outcome, the website and the format you want back
- Approve website access and sign in through the secure form when it asks
